National Institutes Of Horror

Many people know of the Tuskegee syphilis experiments, in which doctors and scientists from the National Institute of Health conducted syphilis experiments on black men between 1932 and 1972, never telling the men the nature of the experiments. But what most people don’t know is that some of the same “researchers” involved in Tuskegee later ran similar experiments in Guatemala after it became too hot to continue this work within the United States proper.

Not only prisoners, but also soldiers, mental patients and orphans were injected with syphilis or other sexually transmitted diseases, and left untended to monitor the health consequences.

Here, we get a closer look at this hideous program, overseen by John Charles Cutler, who served as acting chief of the venereal disease program in the U.S. Public Health Service. More from Jamie Dlux.
