Hurricane Smacks Florida

Hurricane Milton made landfall just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday on Florida’s Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm.

Milton came on the scene on Saturday as a tropical storm. Early Monday morning, Milton kicked off a rapid intensification starting as a Category 2 storm. It waffled between Category 4 and 5 strength on Tuesday before weakening to a Category 3 as it came ashore near Siesta Key, south of Tampa and St. Petersburg. The key is part of Siesta Beach alongside Sarasota.

Now, the storm is already exiting Florida as a Category 1, heading out into the Atlantic Ocean. The worst of the damage should be over by mid afternoon today, but the flooding will take awhile to subside, and some risk of tornadoes remains. Here’s an update from Channel 10, the CBS station serving Tampa Bay and Sarasota.

Mad Dash Out Of St. Pete

Hurricane Helene’s wrath is fresh, but a new storm, Milton, threatens! With no time to rest, THOUSANDS scramble to evacuate Tampa Bay. I take you inside the evacuations, the gas shortages and tell you some stories of people caught in the cross hairs.

Meet some determined residents – a few who choose to stay behind, even on sailboats, while others fight to save their homes with sandbags. And the tough decisions I have to make as my home is dead center in the projected path of Hurricane Milton. Here’s more from Jonathan Petramala.

Ritter Booted From Russia Flight

e fascist Joe Biden regime strikes again. The U.S. State Department has seized the passport of former Marine and United Nations weapons inspector Scott Ritter, as he was on his way to Russia for the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Ritter was pulled off the plane and had his documents confiscated.

We discuss this with Michael Rectenwald, former New York University Professor and author of Google Archipelago. Here’s more from RT, the Russian TV network.

Hurricane Whips Across Florida

Hurricane Ian made landfall in Florida with 155 miles-per-hour winds and 18-foot waves, causing epic destruction. News reporters were in the thick of the storm, wearing baseball helmets for protection against projectiles.

The Weather Channel’s Jim Cantore had some close calls after almost being struck by lightning. Much of Florida is closed down, including the state’s famous amusement parks. Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld are all shut down. More from Inside Edition.

The one saving grace: The storm came ashore across southwestern Florida, most of its thrust in the vicinity of Ft. Myers and Naples. The more heavily populated region around Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater did not take a direct hit, as had been feared. Michael Jaco, who now lives in Florida, discusses what’s happening.

Russia’s Underground Films

Shane Smith from Vice travels to Moscow and St. Petersburg to meet Russia’s underground filmmakers. Fueled by copious quantities of vodka, wild and crazy intellectual theories and old 35 mm cameras built as solidly as tanks, these artists on the fringe are producing some of the world’s most original movies. Many got their start under Perestroika in the 1980s and rallied behind a rowdy, rebellious movement they called “Parallel Cinema.” Now, amid rising fears of censorship and a return to a chilling Cold War zeitgeist, the filmmakers continue to roll the celluloid, all while keeping a sharp lookout for the KGB.
