What Mitt Must Do

Dick Morris spells out the best plan of attack for Mitt Romney in tonight’s Presidential Debate from Denver, focusing on domestic policy issues. Morris recommends that Romney hammer President Obama on two fronts — citing the stagnant economy and the unpopular Obamacare program. On the defensive side of the ledger, Romney also should take advantage of this forum to refute the personal attacks leveled against him by the Obama campaign.

Turbo-Charge the Economy

Stephen Moore, economist with the Wall Street Journal, advocates adoption of a flat, 19 percent tax rate, saying “if you do that, you’re injecting rocket fuel into the economy.” But at the minimum, Moore says, Congress needs to overhaul our nation’s tax code, calling it too broken to fix in a piecemeal fashion. Moore also offers his assessment of the 2012 election, and predicts it will be a squeaker, decided by a percent or two either way. Watch his interview with Nick Gillespie from Reason.TV.

Venezuela’s Chavez in Dogfight

Sunday’s Presidential election in Venezuela pits Socialist strongman Hugo Chavez against the most formidable opponent he has faced in his 14 years in office. Coalition opposition leader Henrique Capriles has gained ground by waging an aggressive door-to-door campaign. But even Capriles describes himself as a David facing a Goliath, and recent polls show him trailing by about 10 percent. Chavez enjoys clearcut advantages, including billions of dollars in oil-funded handouts to court key voter blocs. Al Jazeera reports from Venezuela on the run-up to the election.

Richard Beales and Raul Gallegos with Reuters discuss how Chavez raids the treasury of PDVSA, the Venezuelan state oil company, to bankroll his political and social programs. As a result, PDVSA is now a debt-ridden enterprise, forced to pay its suppliers with IOUs.

Debates Benefit Challengers

Dick Morris says televised Presidential debates have only been part of the American experience since 1960. He offers his take on which of these debates have really influenced or changed campaigns — who won,  who lost and why.  He also says, barring a serious miscue, the debates favor challengers, giving them a better chance to break through to the public and make a strong impression.

Romney Pulls Throng in Toledo

If you believe some of the polls, Mitt Romney is down by 10 points in Ohio. But you can choose to believe the polls or believe what you see with your own eyes. Here’s the scene outside Romney’s rally last week in Toledo, county seat of Democratic stronghold Lucas County, Ohio. In 2008, Obama carried Lucas County by a 65 percent to 33 percent margin over John McCain, attracting 142,852 votes to easily eclipse McCain’s 73,706 votes. Does it look like Obama will enjoy that same inflated edge in 2012? H/T iOwnTheWorld

Time to Smoke the Liberals

Remember Mel Gibson rallying the Scottish Highlanders in Braveheart? Breitbart reporter, CNN contributor and Tea Party organizer Dana Loesch channels that fiery spirit in a pep talk she gave 6,500 FreedomWorks grassroots activists attending a bootcamp earlier this month in Cincinnati, Ohio. “I’m in it to win,” Loesch says. “I want to walk away in November and, figuratively speaking, I want my opponents to be nothing but a smoking pile of ash.”

Bear her words in mind on Nov. 6. There are an estimated 41 million Tea Party supporters in America, representing 31 percent of the electorate — a larger bloc by far than the 25 million American voters who identify themselves as liberals. We outnumber them, so now’s not the time to get demoralized by skewed polls produced by biased, left-leaning media outlets. Now’s the time to mobilize, get out the vote and smoke ’em.

There’s Movement Toward Mitt

The Democrats’ post-convention bounce has evaporated, and now, new polls are showing a clear movement toward GOP hopeful Mitt Romney. Pundit Dick Morris analyzes the poll data and offers his assessment of what’s behind the shift — President Obama’s mishandling of the volatile situation in the Middle East and his constant campaigning while neglecting the duties of his office.

Here’s Morris reiterating his interpretation last night on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News, and asserting if the election were held today, Romney would carry Ohio, Virginia and Florida as well as play in Nevada, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Democrats: Seeking Victims

The Democrats gin up victims even when they don’t exist. It’s a divide-and-conquer party, pitting men against women, different minorities against each other, the rich vs. the poor, the old vs. the young — telling each group it’s a “victim” at the mercy of the bloodsucking vampire Republicans. Alfonzo Rachel exposes the phoniness behind the game, and has some fun skewering those non-existent fat-cat Democrats pulling the strings in this marionette show. See it all — and watch him dodge a flying wife shoe — in the latest ZoNation. H/T PJTV

Ukraine’s Lords of the Ring

Ukraine boxers Vitali and Vladimir Klitschko usually let their fists and footwork do all the talking. Both have amassed an amazing record in the ring, winning all four international heavyweight belts. But instead of celebrating, with Ukraine’s elections around the corner, we find the Klitschkos ready to talk about the plight of their blighted, beloved homeland. Now they have plans to wrest it back from the political forces that have made it one of the most corrupt states in Europe.

“We have to change a lot of things in Ukraine. And I know one thing better than anyone – no fight, no win,” says Vitali. As this candid report from ABC Australia shows, the fighters are very smart, charismatic and determined to use their position in the public eye to change the direction of Ukraine. The campaign trail is littered with candidates battered and beaten by government thugs, but the Klitschkos say the stakes are too high to ignore. H/T Journeyman Pictures
