Lira says the West appears to have two options: On one hand, avoid a long war and negotiate a peace settlement. On the other hand, forget negotiations, keep on sending weapons and basically doing what has not worked so far. He was said to have the support of Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., Bob Corker, R-Tenn.; Susan Collins, R-Maine; and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska. With Republicans lining up solidly behind him, Democrats began to drift over as well, starting with Joe Manchin, D-W.V. As many as six or seven other Democrats could vote to confirm Kavanaugh, but even if it’s only two or three, he will be named to serve on the Supreme Court.
