3 Reasons to Fear the IRS

So the IRS has admitted to sitting on applications for tax-exempt status by Tea Party groups for political reasons. According to the government’s own investigation, applications containing terms such as Tea Party and Patriot were singled out for delays and holds even as groups with liberal-sounding names like “Bus for Progress” and “Progress Florida” sailed through the process.

President Obama said “the report’s findings are intolerable and inexcusable” and even fired the acting head of the Internal Revenue Service. Regardless of how this particular scandal shakes out, there’s still going to be at least three good reasons to be scared as hell of the IRS. H/T Reason.TV

Paranoia Has Set In

Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) appeared on the Andrea Tantaros Show to discuss the Benghazi scandal. Wolf says that Obama’s arrogance and paranoia led to the cover-up of the terrorist attack that left four Americans dead. Wolf recommends a select committee to investigate the cover-up.

West Wing Weak

The Obama White House has released the latest installment of its ongoing and self-congratulatory video series, West Wing Week. But despite touting itself as “your guide to all things 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.,” the new episode seems to be missing some of the key stories that have hit the headlines over the past few days. There’s no mention, for instance, of Benghazi or the AP phone tapping – and the IRS scandal is barely mentioned in passing.

Perhaps the White House is just too busy completely redacting documents requested under the Freedom of Information Act to fully document its recent highlights. In a surge of civic pride, Reason TV is happy to offer “West Wing Weak,” our look back at the administration’s past seven days.

The Widening IRS Scandal

The IRS not only singled out grassroots Tea Party organizations, but also a wide swatch of conservative groups, including some with ties to Israel and others advocating the sanctity of the US Constitution. Perhaps instead of scrutinizing these groups, IRS agents should go back and re-read the Bill of Rights and Constitution. The specter of a federal agency running roughshod over American principles and laws is simply intolerable. Heads should roll at this all-powerful, but wantonly reckless agency. CNN reports

We all know now the American public was fed a pack of lies regarding last fall’s deadly attack on the American consulate in Benghazi. The burning questions that remain to be solved: Who orchestrated the snow job? Was it hatched by underlings trying to save the president’s hide ahead of the election?
