Miss. Auditor Sacks Brett Favre

Mississippi State Auditor Shad White brought the hammer down on former Green Bay Packers superstar Brett Favre, forcing the iconic quarterback to reimburse the state for failing to perform services he was paid for. Turns out Favre collected $600,000 from the Mississippi Welfare Department for speeches that he apparently never gave.

Martin Brodel reports Favre has paid back the money, but was also ordered by White to pay back $228,000 in interest. Favre is not facing criminal charges, but he could still be sued by the state attorney general if the interest is not paid back in 30 days. On a larger scale, Human Services Department Director John Davis and others have been charged and indicted in the state’s largest embezzlement scheme for illegally obtaining funds for needy families from public funds.
