The Dead Kennedys touched upon this Disney charade in their punk-rock song “Potshot Heard Round the World.” The relevant refrain, “Ever notice news Is staged like TV wrestling shows with Reagans and Khaddafis cast as Cartoon villains and heroes or those wildlife documentaries, where a Lion from a zoo kills a deer tied down ahead of time at the perfect Camera angle when lemmings balk at dying for Disney they’re just Hurled off the cliff.”

Disney Still Goofy

There’s no denying that Goofy, the affable Walt Disney cartoon character, has entertained kids young and old for decades. Perhaps the most popular ever animated character on the planet, Goofy made his debut in Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon, “Mickey’s Revue,” as Dippy Dog. His fame skyrocketed thereafter with appearances in cartoons, comic books and with cameos in major animated movies such as Who Framed Roger Rabbitt.

Despite his age, Goofy continues to entertain generations of children and today appears on the early childhood education program Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Walt Disney’s Oscar-nominated animation, directed by John Kahrs, pushes the boundaries of the medium in new directions by seamlessly merging computer-generated and hand-drawn imagery. The story follows a lonely young man in New York City who meets a beautiful woman on his morning commute. Sebastian’s Voodoo

A tale of courage and self-sacrifice as a voodoo doll summons the strength to save his friends from death.

Born in Paraguay, animator Joaquin Baldwin created this 2008 short under the auspices of the UCLA Animation Workshop. It won the Short Film Corner Online Competition, juried by the National Film Board of Canada, and was nominated for the Annie Award for Best Animated Short Subject.  Baldwin now works at the Walt Disney Animation Studios in Los Angeles.

Out of the Frying Pan

A DAY OF BACON

Walt Disney released the cartoon Out of the Frying Pan into the Firing Line in 1942 to benefit the war effort. The cartoon encouraged housewives not to discard their kitchen grease. It could be converted into glycerin for explosives to use against our enemies in World War II.
