Antarctic Ice Mass Grows

Scientists are observing record growth in the sea ice extending out from Antarctica. Northward winds are driving the annual growth, amounting to an area roughly equal to the size of Connecticut. This Antarctic expansion comes at the same time that the polar ice cap in the Arctic has been shrinking. Robert Lee Hotz from the Wall Street Journal has the details

Just like Popeye with his spinach, a beaten-down Japanese salaryman finds the perfect pick-me-up in a bowl of ramen noodles. Michael Chen says he was inspired to create this animated short after spending some time in Sapporo, Japan, where he became close friends with a ramen chef. Chen created the work last year while completing a Media Arts Production degree at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. H/T Kuriositas

French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard cast his then wife, actress Anna Karina, in Vivre Sa Vie (My Life to Live) — the 1962 drama of a Parisian woman, Nana, and her descent into prostitution. The picture is divided into 12 vignettes that capture Nana’s daily routines: Her boredom with her customers, her double-edged relationship with her pimp, how she spends her free time. But one jukebox dance scene gives a hint of what might have been if Nana had taken a different path in life and shows a glimpse of the young, carefree girl still dwelling inside her.
