Oyster Farm Evicted

The National Park Service has evicted Drakes Bay Family Oyster Farm in Point Reyes, Calif., putting 30 people out of work and shutting down the last oyster cannery in California. The farm had been in operation for 40 years under a lease with the federal government, but had come under attack from “wilderness advocates” who believed the operation marred a pristine coastline. Now, the coastline will be empty and open, at the same time that 30 more Americans will be unemployed and one more small business destroyed by the Obama Administration.

Here is a short video about the oyster farm created by local students from Tampalais High School in 2010. The students titled the video Love on the Half Shell.

Egyptian Coup Spurs Debate

In a first of its kind move, the head of the European parliament has asked the European Union to stop supporting Egypt following Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi’s decree to expand his power above the courts. Martin Schultz said the EU should not condone what he called a coup.

Just last week, Morsi awarded himself sweeping powers, and the Islamist-dominated constitutional assembly rushed through a draft charter based on Sharia law that critics say could leave women and ethnic minorities vulnerable. Protests have continued to rage over Morsi’s decision and despite international debate over the new draft constitution, the Obama administration has so far declined to criticize it.

Statue of Liberty Closed

It may be several months before the National Park Service is able to reopen the Statue of Liberty following storm-related damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. The landmark is one of New York’s most popular tourist attractions, visited by four million annually. The one saving grace: The hurricane did not cause significant damage to the statue itself, only to walkways, outbuildings, docks and mechanical infrastructure that can all be repaired.

Stupid Is As Stupid Does

It appears many GOP Congressmen are suddenly willing to raise taxes. What utter fools says pundit Wayne Allyn Root. As Forrest Gump’s mother (played by Sally Field) said: “Stupid is as stupid does.” And this is world-class stupid.
