John Stossel reports that the government sometimes arrests parents for giving kids responsibility. In South Carolina, Deborah Harrell was jailed for letting her 9-year-old daughter play in a park for the day.
Stossel says local media outlets breathlessly reported that Harrell left her daughter at the park “for hours at a time,” and that she “confessed” to that. A police interrogator lectured Harrell: “You can’t leave a child who is nine years old in the park by herself. What would you do if some sex offender came by?” Yet, despite media scare stories, kidnappings are extremely rare and are way down. Stossel explains further.

When parents in one school objected to sexually explicit indoctrination of their students by bringing in drag queens to teach cosmetology class, one teacher took it upon himself to write that parents should not have the final say in the raising of their children. Who really has the right and responsibility of setting the moral code for your kids? You? Or the state? You’d be surprised. David Zublick unseals the horrible truth in this special report.
The question of the day: Are parents trying too hard to make their kids happy? Today, it seems that parenting is creating more stress than happiness. Our kids’ lives are over-scheduled, more complicated and more scripted than ever before. “Parents need to be able to slow down and to stop worrying about every single thing,” says Katie Hurley, a licensed clinical social worker and author of The Happy Kid Handbook. In this special edition of PJTV, Hurley tells host Stephen Kruiser how to focus on your child’s individual happiness, instead of what everyone else is doing.
