Big Data, Bigger Brother

Politicians argue new digital IDs will make life easier.

But privacy expert Naomi Brockwell warns that’s only true, until “services start saying, no, you can’t use our system.”

Stossel TV’s Kristin Tokarev explains why we shouldn’t trust government with MORE power to control.

Coronavirus Overreach

As the coronavirus lockdown enters its second month, governments are enforcing stricter measures to save lives. But are these rules really helpful or are they infringing on our civil liberties? In Florida, police are monitoring people with drones, North Carolina authorities announced on Twitter that protesting is a non-essential activity and, in Michigan, perhaps the most Draconian of all states, residents are prohibited from visiting friends or relatives, and people with more than one home are banned from traveling between them. And the media, of course, following in lockstep with these newly anointed tyrants, are insisting that government must set stricter rules. Enough already! People fed up and they can’t take it anymore! “It’s creepy how some people are so eager to have authorities boss us around,” says John Stossel. Here’s more from Stossel TV.

China’s Tech Totalitarianism

The media is reporting that China beat the coronavirus. But it’s difficult to believe anything the China government says. If China really does have coronavirus under control, the dictators will claim their creepy “social credit score” system helped. China spies on every citizen, learning everyone’s political leanings, shopping history and social interactions. They use that to give everyone a trust score. Your score drops if you criticize the government, or do things like play lot of video games, watch pornography or have friends with low social credit scores. China punishes people who behave “badly” by doing things like slowing their internet speed, or banning them from trains. But is this just another example of China’s tech totalitarianism? Tune in to Stossel TV for more.

Pandemic’s Unsung Heroes

During a crisis, the real heroes are not the politicians who go on TV and bloviate. The real heroes are those that are spurred into action, such as truckers working overtime to deliver goods to stores; alcohol distillers making hand sanitizer instead of liquor; musicians broadcasting free, live shows online; or fabric companies producing face masks for hospitals. John Stossel delivers the details in this episode of Stossel TV.

Bloomberg: Nanny-in-Chief

Former New York City Mayor and Wall Street magnet Michael Bloomberg is somewhat of an anomaly in the 2020 Democrat presidential field. Unlike many of the party’s socialist candidates, Bloomberg says some some sensible things, such as supporting capitalism and trashing the far left’s utopian policies of medicare-for-all and the Green New Deal. Problem is, Mini Mike has some peculiar whims of his own, as he demonstrated during his 12-year mayoral stint in New York City. Like an oppresssive nanny, Bloomberg imposed restrictions on sugary drinks and restricted free speech, and targeted things such as smoking, flavored tobacco, loud music, grass clippings, salt, styrofoam and more. While admittedly a skilled manager of organization, Mini Mike is basically a busy-body, who could become Nanny-in-Chief. Here’s more from John Stossel.

Scary Side of Bolshevik Bernie

As Bernie Sanders continues his quest for the White House, he continues to talk Democratic socialism. What he’s buried for the moment is his once-ardent praise for violent, revolutionary socialist regimes, ala Castro and Cuba, Ortega and the Nicaraguan Sandanistas and, of course, his beloved Soviet Union, where he honeymooned. Since Bolshevik Bernie got into Congress, though, he has mostly stopped praising violent socialist revolution, but he’s never taken back the extensive praise he’s given to all sorts of socialist regimes. Suffice it to say: Once a commie, always a commie. Here’s more from Stossel TV.

Bolshevik or not, Bernie Sanders is holding onto the lead in the 2020 Democratic race, taking 1st place by a sizeable margin in Saturday’s Nevada caucus, with Joe Biden a distant 2nd place. Chris Stirewalt breaks it down on Fox News.

Everything on Demand

There’s no arguing that competition made our entertainment cheaper and better. Not long ago, our TV options included the major networks and PBS, depending on the weather. Today, almost anything you want to watch is available at the click of a button at far less the cost. In the following video on Stossel TV, Sean Malone of the Foundation of Economic Education, explains the transformation.
