Why Are Gas Prices Soaring?

How many times have we heard that rising gas prices are the fault of villainous oil companies taking advantage of helpless consumers? Prof. Art Carden explains that this popular story is false.

Gas prices go up and down based on the laws of supply and demand. Political problems, such as wars and barriers to the development of new sources and new energy sources, also contribute to rising prices. Prices would also be lower if demand were not artificially increased. H/T Learn Liberty

Grossing Out Libertarians

By nature, Libertarians are hard to gross out. New York University professor Jonathan Haidt says those who are easily disgusted tend to be conservatives, while Libertarians have a lower sensitivity toward disgust, whether it involves matters of sex, language, politics or morality. Haidt is the author of The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided By Politics. Here, he discusses his findings in a lecture sponsored by the Reason Foundation at the Museum of Sex. A Q & A with New York Times science writer John Tierney follows.

Still Water

This is one of the most amazing student-drawn animations you’ll ever see. Not only is the storytelling quite accomplished, but the work is exceptionally beautiful and painterly in its look. Natalie David Esphani created it in 2011 as her graduation film at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Israel, receiving a strong assist from composer Dan Karger.

The premise: A desperate fisherman trolls from morning to night, but all he ever catches are discarded boots. This puts a strain on his relationship with his supportive wife.

Skelton’s Clem Kadiddlehopper

Perhaps one of Red Skelton’s most affable characters was the intellectually challenged Clem Kadiddlehopper. In this first skit, “Clem’s General Store,” Kadiddlehopper removes the “Boy Wanted” sign from the window and approaches store owner Mr. Thompson. “Clem, why did you bring this sign in here,” Thompson asks. “Well, it says boy wanted, and I’m a boy,” Clem exclaims. “But you ain’t wanted,” Thompson says.

In “Clem and the Beanstalk,” Clem meets merchant J.B. Throckmorton, who asks Kadiddlehopper if he’s ever heard the tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. A confused Clem says, “Is that the fellow who traded his cow for a bag of magic beans, and he went home and his ma threw them out the window, and the next day there’s a big beanstalk there that he climbed up, then he saw the giant and stole the ghost, er, goose that laid the golden egg … or ghost that laid the goosened egg. And he was rich forever after.” “That’s the one,” Throckmorton says.” “No, I’ve never heard that one,” Clem says. Babes of Burlesque: 57

STELLA CHUU

Burlesque performer and cosplayer extraordinaire, Stella Chuu has a passion for all things geeky — video games, anime, comic books and pop culture. She says the fantasy world of cosplay holds the same appeal for her as burlesque. “Being able to express that I love my body is an exhilarating feeling. I can show people that I am a sexual and powerful being. I am able to become any character that I want. All eyes are on me and I control what they see.”

Based out of New York City, Chuu combines burlesque and cosplay. Here she is in Santiago, Chile.

Campus Anti-Semitism

Most Americans strongly support Israel, but ironically, some of our college campuses have become hotbeds of anti-Semitism, occasionally drummed up by Leftist professors. Allen West interviews investigative journalist and Israeli activist Lee Kaplan about this disturbing trend at American universities. Why is it happening? What can be done about it? And is the political left uniting with the Islamists on campus? H/T PJTV
