A Stunning Panorama Of Mars

In a world first, ElderFox Documentaries presents new footage from Mars in stunning 4K resolution. The footage was captured over the years from the three most successful rovers–Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity, the latter being the only rover still active on Mars. Unfortunately, Spirit and Opportunity succumbed to the Red Planet’s environment. The footage was shot by these rovers from the actual surface of Mars and Team NASA provides informal place names of each shot in the bottom left-hand corner.

Going to Mars a Bad Idea

Between 1987 and 1991, NASA constructed Biosphere 2, a self-sustaining ecosystem designed for eight people to test technologies that we could use to colonize Mars. The project was used twice and the results were less than impressive. Despite hundreds of millions of dollars and years of planning by some of the brightest minds in the world, the project failed miserably. So the question is, if we can’t make that work here on Earth, how are we going to colonize Mars. Video blogger Joe Scott says that plans to go to Mars is rife with all sorts of problems and it’s really a bad idea. In the following episode, Scott lists five major reasons why Americans should scrap the Mars mission.

Mars is Really Hostile to Life

The Physics Girl, Dianna Cowern, caught up with UCLA planetary geologist Raquel Nuno to discuss the many ways that Mars is actually a death trap for humans. One of the most surprising ways that Mars is hostile, Nuno says, is its wild tilt.

While the Earth’s tilt is generally 23 degrees, Mars bounces chaotically between zero and 60 degrees, dramatically affecting the planet’s atmosphere, which would in turn dramatically affect human colonizers. Then there’s harmful radiation and the solar system’s largest volcano! Tune in to more details with Cowern and Nuno on PBS Digital.

New Dwarf Planet Found

For decades, an object orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter was thought to be just another rock in the asteroid belt. Discovered in 1849, the object was named Hygiea and last week scientists announced that there’s a strong possibility that it qualifies as a dwarf planet. Get the scoop as SciShow Space fills in the details.

Humanity’s Next Big Leap

Space X founder and CEO Elon Musk says he envisions a future when we will revisit the Moon and land a man on Mars for the very first time. Musk dreams of the day when reusable rockets will transport people to the Moon and Mars and he’s focusing on humans becoming a multi-planet species. “Sending crews to Mars in four years, I think that’s sounds pretty doable, Musk says. “Internally we’ll aim for two years, but in reality it might be four.” Musk speaks to Time Magazine editor-at-large Jeffrey Kluger on CBS Sunday Morning.

The Forbidden Planet

Planets similar to the size of Neptune don’t orbit too closely to their stars because they would lose their atmospheres. But scientists recently discovered an exoplanet 900 light years away, a bit smaller than Neptune with 20 masses of Earth orbiting super close to its star, or sun. The unusual circumstances surrounding the planet led scientists to dub their new find, The Forbidden Planet, and gave them hope to understanding how solar systems evolved. The research also bodes well to discovering successful techniques for exploring and eventually colonizing Mars. Find out more in this episode of SciShow Space.

Nazi Flying Saucers

Two stunning films show German “flying discs” perfected by the Nazis in WWII. If these films are real — and not forgeries — then it’s clear that reports we have heard through the years of flying saucers might actually just be craft perfected by German scientists, technicians and craftsmen brought to America after the war ended, as part of Operation Paperclip. These films were published on YouTube near the end of May by Jeff Rense. We visit his website periodically to read news reports, mostly by Japanese journalist Yoichi Shimatsu, dealing with Pizzagate, Satanists, NXIVM, Jeffrey Epstein and related topics. In other words, all the news the news never prints!

Mars, Germany and the Secret Space Program. While the idea of anti-gravity space flight, or a breakaway German colony on the Moon, or a subterranean UFO base in Antarctica, might all sound like science fiction, what can be said for certain is that they are not new ideas, nor do not seem to be easily explained away. My name is Robert Sepehr, thank you for keeping an open mind.

If anti-gravity and free energy technology exists, as some have claimed, then why is it being kept secret? Could there really be a breakaway civilization that uses such advanced technology, or a secret space force, as some eyewitnesses have claimed. And if so, how would the government go about disclosing any of this, assuming it actually wanted to?

Notice Melania Trump’s fashion sense. Seems inspired by flying saucers, don’t you think?

Santa Claus on Mars!

Just in time for the holidays, we present the full original 1964 holiday comedy: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. The story involves the people of Mars, including Momar (“Mom Martian”) and Kimar (“King Martian”). They’re worried that their children Girmar (“Girl Martian”) and Bomar (“Boy Martian”) are watching too much Earth television, most notably station KID-TV’s interview with Santa Claus in his workshop at the North Pole. Consulting the ancient 800-year-old Martian sage Chochem (a Yiddish word meaning “genius”), they are advised that the children of Mars are growing distracted due to the society’s overly rigid structure; from infancy, all their education is fed into their brains through machines and they are not allowed individuality or freedom of thought.

Who’s Cleaning Mars Rovers?

The Mars exploration missions launched in 2003, successfully landing two Rovers — Spirit and Opportunity — on the Red Planet. The mission’s objective was to search for clues to past water activity on Mars.

Both Rovers were given an expected lifespan of just 90 days due to the notorious dust storms present on the surface. Spirit lasted an incredible 7 years, surviving until 2010, yet mysteriously, Opportunity is still functioning to this day.

This is due to several cleaning events, which over that last 14 years, have been mysteriously cleaning the Rover’s solar panels. Designed to go offline during the night to save energy, it is during these hours that something, or someone, has been helping to keep our Rovers running. More from Mystery History.
