The Widening IRS Scandal

The IRS not only singled out grassroots Tea Party organizations, but also a wide swatch of conservative groups, including some with ties to Israel and others advocating the sanctity of the US Constitution. Perhaps instead of scrutinizing these groups, IRS agents should go back and re-read the Bill of Rights and Constitution. The specter of a federal agency running roughshod over American principles and laws is simply intolerable. Heads should roll at this all-powerful, but wantonly reckless agency. CNN reports

Here Come the Cameras

You have already seen the private security footage that sparked the manhunt of the two Boston terrorism suspects, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The footage shows the value of cameras in fighting terrorism.

After the images were released by the FBI, representative Peter King of New York praised surveillance cameras, calling them, “a great law enforcement method and device,” and New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said, “The more cameras the better and I think the privacy issue has really been taken off the table.”

But civil liberties advocates like Peter Bibring of the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California say that there is a big difference between obtaining private security footage and government-run cameras like those praised by Rep. King and Commissioner Kelly. H/T Reason.TV

Why Benghazi Still Matters

Reason.TV cites three reasons why Benghazi still matters.

1. We still don’t know what really happened.
2. U.S. officials keep attacking free speech as the cause of the attack.
3. We still don’t have a foreign policy in the Middle East – or anywhere else.

The Cicadas Are Coming!

Cicadas have developed an amazing strategy for growth, survival, reproduction, and overcoming predation by…doing nothing. They do nothing for years (except sip at the juice excreted from root structures) before emerging in huge, simultaneous swarms.

The swarm is so huge that predators can’t consume even a fraction of it, but so rare that predator populations can’t sustain themselves between emergence events. Clever little things! More from Hank Green at the SciShow.
