Feminist Comedian Bombs Hard
Kate Smuthwaite is a feminist comedian – if you didn’t know already. She recently did a tour of Australia and SugarTits and I were not going to let that slide without a full debrief.
She toured the country wearing a keffiyeh while flyering for her comedy show, got called an idiot and a terrorist by strangers in Perth, got called a Christian by an elderly woman which apparently hurt more, and did a Palestine protest in between shows because nothing says “come see my comedy” like telling Australians what to think about geopolitical conflicts. A British comedian. In Australia. At a Palestine rally. Someone throw a boomerang.
She also announced what she described as one of the greatest nights of comedy you will ever see in your life — Stand Up for Gaza, MC’d by Kate herself. I investigated the lineup. We’ve got a woman doing prop comedy where she pretends to be a fly, a COVID joke guy, a vegan, an Indian comedian doing what appears to be a thickened accent for the lols, an ex-homeless bloke with mild potential, and a feminist whose entire bit is that she hates straight men and dresses accordingly. Kate will be hosting all of this.
