The Clapper Strikes Again

CBS News has reported that the Director of National Intelligence’s office — headed by Obama appointee James Clapper — made the decision to scrub any references to “Al Qaeda” or “terrorism” from the Administration’s talking points regarding the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Apparently, the CIA had confirmed the attack was an act of terrorism but also subsequently acquiesced to the DNI’s watered-down account meant for mass consumption. As the Ace of Spades blog observed,  “The White House wanted the terrorism angle all but written out of the report, and Clapper was the man who did the editing, and then the CIA, to its great dishonor, signed off on this lie.”

Yes, every Administration needs a Clapper. Plug it in, clap twice, and behold how quickly you can turn out the lights, and hide any semblance of truth from the public.

The Iranian Coverup

President Obama covered up an attack by Iranian jets on a US drone missile on November 1 and didn’t tell us until after election day. Added to the Benghazi coverup and the cooking of the books to make unemployment  numbers appear less onerous, the Administration engaged in shady deceit to win a razor-thin victory. Pundit Dick Morris calls for Congressional probes.

CIA Director Drops Bombshell

The resignation of David Petraeus as director of the Central Intelligence Agency raises questions. Not so much about the extramarital affair that led to him stepping down, but rather about the timing of the resignation and whether he was forced to leave.

It’s most curious the announcement came just after the election and just ahead of Petraeus’ scheduled testimony before Congress on the Benghazi mess. It’s doubly curious because the affair apparently happened while the former four-star general served as commander in Afghanistan, more than a year ago. Why did news of the affair surface at this particular juncture, and what compelled the FBI to launch an investigation of Paula Broadwell, author of the biography All In: The Education of General David Petraeus?

Widespread news reports have identified Broadwell as Petraeus’ mistress, although neither she nor the general have acknowledged that assertion as fact. Without spelling out any further particulars, Petraeus’ resignation letter declared,  “After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours.”

Broadwell herself is married, but was embedded (adding new meaning to the term) with Petraeus while he was serving in Afghanistan and she was researching her book. Here is an interview Broadwell gave this past March with CBS News upon the book’s release.

Wagging the Dog

On September 11, the anniversary of a fateful day in US history, terrorists in Libya attacked our consulate in Benghazi, killing US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. Instead of acknowledging the true nature of the attack, Obama administration officials in unison spread a false narrative, deflecting blame to an obscure YouTube video.

Now we know terrorists — and not a filmmaker — plotted the attack, and also that the White House had ample reason beforehand to beef up security for our Libyan diplomats, but chose for its own politically expedient reasons to disregard the advance warnings. It will take months, if not years, to get to the bottom of this mess, but the Heritage Foundation delivers a useful compendium of clips that begins the process of charting this disinformation campaign. Strange, indeed, that it involved lying to the American public while extending a fig leaf of obfuscation to protect our enemies.
