Gold is King

When the dollar became the world currency after World War II, the United States was the world’s richest creditor nation. We had massive trade surpluses and we were the leader in manufactured goods. The dollar was not only backed by gold, but also convertible into gold. Then, says financial commentator and economist Peter Schiff, we exploited the situation and began spending like drunken sailors. With growing concerns over the stability of the dollar, other nations began converting dollar reserves into gold, forcing President Nixon to delink the dollar from gold to the floating exchange rates that exist today.

Fast forward to today and reckless spending has amassed a record deficit exceeding $20 trillion, a scenario that doesn’t bode well for the dollar. “We are going to go back on the gold standard eventually,” Schiff says. “It’s not going to be our decision, but the market’s decision.” He tells us why in this virtual interview with Patrick Bet-David on Valuetainment.

Babes of Burlesque: 45

MISSY MALONE

Scotland’s most celebrated burlesque artist, Missy Malone, isn’t a good fan dancer. She’s a fantastic one. But the fans are only a small part of her stage arsenal. For an act she calls “The Bride,” paying homage to the 1935 movie The Bride of Frankenstein, she dances using that silts that transform her into a towering, nine-foot figure. She also does a champagne-themed balloon dance and impersonates a gambling cowgirl in “Ace of Spades.”

To get a sense of her elaborate costumes and stage props, check out this routine called “Jack Frost,” performed at Burlescapades, hosted by the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh, Scotland.

From an early age, Missy was inspired by classic American pin-up artwork, particularly WWII airplane nose art. This passion is evident in “The Military Strip,” a duet she performed with Leyla Rose at The Arches in Glasgow, Scotland.

Explaining Vatican City

Just how did the world end up with the tiny nation of Vatican City? The short answer is Benito Mussolini, the fascist dictator of Italy during World War II. The long answer is a bit confusing and entails the role of the Pope, one of the remaining true monarchs on the planet, the Holy See and its strange government. CGP puts it all in perspective in the following video.

100 Years of Immigration to U.S.

The last 100 years of immigration to the United States paints a tale of two scenarios. In the aftermath of World War I and II and through the first 41 years of the century, Italy and Germany dominated mass immigration, followed closely by Canada, the United Kingdom and Poland.

But the 1960s presented a much different picture, as immigration from Latin countries exploded, led by Mexico. Our southern neighbor catapulted from mid-pack to No. 1 in 1971 and, as we well know, has far outdistanced every country through 2019. In a unique view of the last 100 years, Animated Stats presents a statistical, year-by-year timeline of the immigration cycle.

Vril Society And German Cults

The Vril Society was an inner column of psychics who helped to guide the Nazis. As far as we can tell — and factual knowledge is scare — these psychics were all long-haired women, working to restore Germany after its defeat in WWII. They came together to form the Vril in 1919.

This is the premiere episode of a new series — Beyond the Headlines — bringing together two of our favorite content creators — Linda Paris from McAllister TV and Thomas from TRUreporting.

Ban WWII Studies?

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Now, we have a dumb-ass Leftist who wants WWII banned as a topic for studying in school. Why? Because WWII disturbs this little Leftist’s mental health and sense of safety. More from Sinatra Says.

The Myth of High Tax Rates

The Democrats are hellbent on slapping the wealthy with outrageous tax rates–90 percent in some instances. The thought process is that a higher tax code will enrich government coffers, enabling it to deal with more pressing issues.

Not true! Just another myth, says economic historian Phillip Magness. While tax rates for the wealthy reached an unfathomable 90 percent during World War II and the Eisenhower Administration and remained as high as 70 percent before the Reagan Revolution, the plan just didn’t work.

“No one ever paid close to those rates,” says Magness, who’s researched tax codes for more than a decade. “A millionaire on average would pay 41 percent. There’s always deductions and exemptions and carve-outs that are baked into the tax code.” Magness and John Stossel debate the issue on this edition of Stossel on Reason.TV.
