Weasel Words Shape Politics

Not only politicians, but also the media, often use euphemisms to soften the truth and camouflage hard realities. Civilians killed in wars are called “collateral damage.” No one’s rich or poor, anymore. Soldiers don’t suffer shellshock, but post-traumatic stress disorder.

Battling Bare

Wives, girlfriends and relatives of combat soldiers suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome have formed a new support group called Battling Bare to bring greater recognition to this problem afflicting many veterans. To demonstrate that they stand by their men, the military wives write pledges of love on their bare bodies, and agree to share in the burden of coping with the emotionally taxing condition. Battling Bare was created by Ashley Wise, whose husband Rob developed PTSD after his second tour of duty in Iraq.
