Ottawa — the capital city of Canada — has decided to rename its Trump Avenue in response to Trump calling for Lake Ontario to be renamed Lake America. The street will remain Trump Avenue through the balance of this year while a committee chooses a new name.
This comes as relations between the two countries have soured. Not only has there been squabbling over place names, but also tariffs and political preferences.
Trump, for instance, just moved to eliminate temporary protected status for thousands of Haitian refugees in the United States. Many of those refugees are now heading to Canada, rather than returning to their home nation of Haiti. Here’s more from Viva Frei, originally a Canadian lawyer, now living in Florida.
Here’s a look at the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to remove temporary protected status for some 250,000 Haitians, sending them back home. There’s a lot of gnashing of the teeth going on among Democrats who brought these people here en masse and deposited them wholesale in select communities. The focus here is on Springfield, Ohio, where Haitians now make up 20 percent of the population.
The hard reality? The Haitians still haven’t assimilated into that community. More than 60 percent of the Haitians are on welfare, receiving SNAP benefits and other government handouts. They have received those handouts for more than 15 years. So while they arrived in a flurry, there’s nothing at all temporary about their status now. Those that wanted to stay could have found jobs, and secured permanent status as citizens.
Those that remained on temporary status will go home, with one last handout of about $2,000 to help them adjust. Seems pretty fair, or at least a modest way to resolve a longstanding predicament.
Mostly, Democrats are whining — the Haitians help to buoy their voting bloc. But CNN and MSNOW also hauled out relic Republicans like John Kasich and Ohio Gov. Mike Dewine to complain. Dewine never worried about the Springfield residents who lived in town before boatloads of immigrants arrived. He and Kasich are a couple of dirt bags, plain and simple. Here’s more from Mark Dice,
President Donald Trump just scored another major immigration victory at the U.S. Supreme Court, and it goes straight to the heart of what his base has been demanding for years: Control over who stays and who goes.
In this new ruling, the Court said Democrats and activist groups **cannot** use the federal courts to block Trump and the Department of Homeland Security from ending **Temporary Protected Status (TPS)** for Haitians and Syrians. In practical terms, that means the administration’s decision to wind down TPS for roughly **350,000 Haitians** and several thousand Syrians stands, and lower‑court injunctions tying Trump’s hands are gone.
It also sends a clear message: Decisions about TPS designations and terminations are executive and DHS calls, not toys for left‑wing lawyers and UN‑aligned NGOs to play with every time they dislike a president’s policy.
