Strange 1950s Propaganda

As we transitioned into the 1950s, World War II has just ended, the Cold War was setting in and America was desperately in search of its identity. The country wanted our kids to be productive, stable members of society. Enter Coronet Films, which taught students how to think and how to act, attempting to educate children about everything. Turns out, the ideology about 1950s America wasn’t about autonomy or freedom, it was about efficiency and systems. Big Joel takes an in-depth look at how these films functioned.

The Minds of Men

Here is The Minds of Men, a  major documentary from the Truthstream Media team of Aaron and Melissa Dykes that took them more than three years to complete. It’s an investigation into the experimentation, art, and practice of social engineering and mind control during the Cold War — a mind-bending journey into the past that gives startling insight into the world we are living in today.

The work is comprehensive — nearly four hours long — but quite stunning and chilling. Plan to watch it in hour-long blocks. You can return here to Stormy or bookmark the YouTube video on your own.

What Was the Cold War?

The decades-long “Cold War” (1947-1989) between the United States and the Soviet Union was so named because the two global powers never came to direct blows. Yet, the war was not without its victims. In fact, millions of Cubans, Koreans and Vietnamese suffered under Communist tyranny. In this video, renowned British historian Andrew Roberts explains why “The Cold War” could just as easily be called “The Third World War.” More from PragerU.

Communist Subversion of USA

American Betrayal is America’s lost history, a chronicle that pits Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight David Eisenhower, and other American icons who shielded overlapping Communist conspiracies against the investigators, politicians, defectors, and others (including Senator Joseph McCarthy) who tried to tell the American people the truth.

American Betrayal shatters the approved histories of an era that begins with FDR’s first inauguration, when “happy days” are supposed to be here again, and ends when we “win” the Cold War. It is here, amid the rubble, where Diana West focuses on the World War II–Cold War deal with the devil in which America surrendered her principles in exchange for a series of Big Lies whose preservation soon became the basis of our leaders’ own self-preservation. It was this moral surrender to deception and self-deception, West argues, that sent us down the long road to moral relativism, “political correctness,” and other cultural ills that have left us unable to ask the hard questions.

Diana West is a journalist and the author of The Death of the Grown-Up: How America’s Arrested Development Is Bringing Down Western Civilization, American Betrayal: The Secret Assault on Our Nation’s Character and The Rebuttal: Defending ‘American Betrayal’ from the Book-Burners. Here, she joins Stefan Molyneux for a fascinating discussion.

Remembering the Cold War

Michael Walsh, best-selling author of Hostile Intent, recalls his years as a Time Magazine correspondent, traveling extensively in Eastern Europe during the Cold War era. Walsh is interviewed about the Cold War and crossing over from freedom into tyranny by PolitiChick Dr. Gina Loudon. The interview takes place at the Wende Museum in Los Angeles, which focuses on East German and Cold War scholarship. Walsh is vice president of the museum’s board of directors.

Russia’s Underground Films

Shane Smith from Vice travels to Moscow and St. Petersburg to meet Russia’s underground filmmakers. Fueled by copious quantities of vodka, wild and crazy intellectual theories and old 35 mm cameras built as solidly as tanks, these artists on the fringe are producing some of the world’s most original movies. Many got their start under Perestroika in the 1980s and rallied behind a rowdy, rebellious movement they called “Parallel Cinema.” Now, amid rising fears of censorship and a return to a chilling Cold War zeitgeist, the filmmakers continue to roll the celluloid, all while keeping a sharp lookout for the KGB.
