A trial taking place in North Dakota will have a significant impact on free speech, and could severely limit the power of protests.
The trial involves something called SLAPP, which strands for Strategic Lawsuits against Public Participation. Energy Transfer, the Big Oil corporation behind the Dakota Access Pipeline, is seeking $300 million in damages from Greenpeace USA and Greenpeace International for their roles in organizing indigenous-led protests against the North Dakota oil pipeline.
Steven Donziger, an American attorney who has led legal fights against Big Oil, including Chevron, joins The Jimmy Dore Show to talk about the SLAPP case in North Dakota.
Generally, we have applauded President Donald Trump, finding him much more honest and proficient than Joe Biden. But Trump is not quite the strong advocate of free speech that he claims to be. He is now threatening colleges and universities that allow pro=Palestinian protests to happen.
Trump doesn’t like these protests, nor do we, because they slam Israel. But as long as the protests abide by law, they should have the same rights as anyone to express their thoughts and opinions. Our Bill of Rights and U.S. Constitution make this clear, and President Trump, of all people, should follow our Constitution. This is not something that can be dictated by Israel.

Agreements regarding territorial exchange are the last lingering components to negotiating an end to the Ukraine War. That’s the assessment of John Mearsheimer, an international relations scholar at the University of Chicago. Much of the underpinnings of a peace deal were already resolved at a prior conference in Istanbul, Turkey.
Steve Witkoff, the American Special Envoy to the Middle East, believes resolving the conflict now offers the best chance for success. “Territory” is the reason.
Under the current division of land, Russia would presumably get Crimea plus the four oblasts in the easternmost quadrant of Ukraine, around Donetsk. If the war went on longer, and Russia also seized Odessa, that would be a far more difficult territory to surrender. Not only the Ukraine, but much of the European Union would balk then.

Should the FBI be preserved at all?
Many active supporters of President Donald Trump oppose the law enforcement agency, after its criminal raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. But Trumptards aren’t the only ones ready to chuck the agency.
Christian Parenti, an independent journalist and an economic professor at John Jay College in New York City, argues that progressives ought to join the cause as well, seeing as how the FBI has targeted so many organizations, labor unions and politicians on the left. “The FBI is a cancer that needs to be rooted out,” Parenti says on The Jimmy Dore Show.
Immigrants are terrified to come to work. Empty job sites are turning up all over the country in all kinds of lines of work — bakeries, construction, trucking, among other industries.Among the bakeries, those impacted include Bimbo Bread, Stroehmann, Mrs. Baird’s, Thomas’ muffins, Sara Lee and Entemann’s.
Obviously a lot of businesses hired illegal aliens, rather than citizens, because the businesses didn’t want to pay full wages or have workers complaining or forming unions. Will these businesses now hire citizens, or will they move plants to Mexico or elsewhere?
