Here, Benny Johnson draws from the British newspaper, the Daily Mail, which reported details of the Iranian plot to assassinate Trump. The henchman of the would-be assassins was Farhard Shakeri, a 51-year-old Afghan terrorist who has been deported from the United States in 2008 after serving 14 years in prison for his involvement in a robbery.
Shakeri had joined the Iranian Revolutionary Guard following his deportation. Iran contracted with him to assassinate former President Donald Trump as payback for the death of Qasem Soleimani, the Iranian major general and commander of the Quds Force.
Shakeri enlisted the help of two fellow prisoners he had met at the Woodbourne Correctional Center in New York — Jonathan Loadholt, 36, of Staten Island and Carlisle “Pop” Rivera, 49, of Brookyln. In addition to Trump, the assassins had orders to kill two Jewish businessmen in the United States, as well as Iranian dissident Masih Alineja. She was targeted to be killed at a talk she was scheduled to give at Fairfield University in Connecticut.
