Holding true to his campaign promise, newly sworn-in U.S. President Donald Trump said in his inaugural speech Monday that he would declare illegal immigration a national emergency, send troops to the U.S.-Mexico border and reinstate his “remain in Mexico” policy as part of a sweeping immigration crackdown.
Said Trump, “All illegal entry will be halted and we will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came.” He sternly added later in the speech that he will designate the Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, much to the delight of his supporters. Glenn admits that the Democrats were right about Big Pharma, he was “wrong about the Iraq War,” and that he, like Ana, is totally flabbergasted by the pro-war Democrats and Kamala Harris welcoming an endorsement by Dick Cheney.
The pair debate the limits of free speech, states’ rights, abortion, federal minimum wage, and unionized workers before strategizing how to get money and corporate interests out of politics. Ana reveals that she was not “surprised on election night at all,” and, even though her audience hates when she says so, “Trump is funny.”
Both Glenn and Ana hope these kinds of conversations can begin to heal our national division and help us come together to create a more perfect union.
President-Elect Donald Trump is close to negotiating peace between Russia and Ukraine, and now, he might have simultaneously solved the intractable problems along the southern border. Already, we are seeing the president of Mexico, Claudia Scheinbaum, experiencing a come to Jesus moment as she approaches Trump seeking to persuade him against ratifying tariffs.

Mises Institute Executive Editor Ryan McMaken says one does not need to be an advocate of open borders to have concerns when one hears about a federal law enforcement agency engaging in a “crackdown,” such as Trump’s mass-deportation plan.
He says the primary problem we’re facing is that immigration has long been subsidized in the United States in the sense that there are low barriers to new migrants benefiting from a bevy of social benefit programs. Immigrants who achieve status as refugees or asylees can access welfare programs almost immediately. Even run-of-the-mill legal migrants need only wait five years to begin living off taxpayer-funded benefits.
McMaken says these subsidization schemes have only grown more aggressive in recent years, attracting a flood of migrants. How do you fix the problem and basically put a stop to illegal immigration? “There is no downside in cutting all that off,” he says. “Get rid of it, end this scheme of subsidizing migration.” Here’s more from McMaken.
