Carolina Evergreen

Remember Sen. Chuck Grassley’s recent pidgin English tweets. He talked of finding dead pigeons and deer, and made some cryptic references, not only to a series of numbers but also corn harvesting in Iowa. But what if Grassley’s tweets involved something much grander, involving references to a series of peculiar fires that have beset packaging plants and especially food packaging plants.

In Canton, North Carolina, there was a recent fire that killed two at Evergreen Packaging. Strangely enough, the plant straddles the Pigeon River and if you follow that river you’ll run smack into Deer Run Road. In Pursuit of Truth plays a game of compare and contrast, exploring a few companies, a few non-profits, and also the shadowy world of fact-checking. Is he onto something or just blowing smoke? Cruz: SCOTUS Not His Desire

Ted Cruz was among a second wave of names added to President Trump’s short list of potential Supreme Court nominees, but the Texas senator doesn’t see himself on the highest bench in the land anytime soon.

Cruz, who recently authored the book, One Vote Away, analyzing the most important SCOTUS decisions of our lifetime, says there’s nothing more important long-term than preserving the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, but added that he would decline a nomination from the President. “I’m glad that the President has the confidence in me, but that’s not the desire in my heart. I want to be in the political fight.”

And in the fight he is, proclaiming in the book that the thought of activist judges controlling the Supreme Court would gravely damage our basic civil liberties. “We got to stop rolling the dice with our Constitutional liberties,” he says. Cruz Gives Dems An Earful

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is mad as hell and he can’t take it anymore. In an impassioned speech before the Senate Judiciary Committee and aimed at Democrats in Congress, Cruz delivered an blistering rebuke of the Obama Administration’s incessant corruption, pointing out that it directed the FBI, CIA, law enforcement and intelligence to target their political opposition. “All of them thought Hillary as going to win and nobody would know that they had abused law enforcement and intelligence to target their political enemies.” Cruz further chided Judiciary Committee Democrats for turning a blind eye. “And what’s astonishing, there’s not a single Democrat here that cares,” he says. Rosenstein Testifies To Senate

Former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee chaired by South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham Wednesday. After Rosenstein’s opening statement, Sen. Graham tore into him. Rosenstein’s long-winded answers were frequently cut off by Sen. Graham. He pummeled Rosenstein with the same question over and over, trying to get at what he knew about the basis for the FISA warrant initially permitting the unprecedented spying on candidate Trump’s campaign activities.
