Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has locked down the Mexican border with the United States and agreed to 10,000 members of its national guard to the border to prevent the smuggling of drugs, particularly fentanyl.
In return, President Donald Trump has waived the 25 percent tariffs that were scheduled to go into effect Tuesday. The waiver will remain in effect for a month as the two nations seek to work out a fair and equitable compromise.

Meanwhile, it looks as if the tariffs involving Canada will also be waived for the time being, as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has implemented a new $1.3 billion plan to patrol the northern border. Some 10,00 agents will be assigned to root out fentanyl traffickers and Canada is stepping forward to redesignate drug cartels as terrorists.
